Best Dance Styles to learn… should it be Bollywood, Zumba, Salsa or Ballet

Updated: Jun 21, 2019

Dance is the hidden language of the soul. Martha Graham

The easiest kind of dance to learn are the ones that you are able to perform to the music you love. Dance is about connecting with your body and soul. What better way to do that than moving to the music that moves your soul. So go with what is best for you. And remember that no dance style is too difficult if it makes you feel good.

And before we proceed any further, know that these are my personal opinions as a dancer, if you disagree, feel free to drop by anytime and let’s resolve this over a dance battle.

Here is the list of Best Dance classes for beginners and promised in the title:

If Bollywood songs are your jam

Then you should go for probably the most trending style right now, ‘Bollywood Dance’. This dance style is quite obviously inspired by the general choreography style of Bollywood. I personally would recommend this to the beginners as it is a mix of a lot of dance style and it’s a very easily adaptable dance style with a room to add your own distinct style. Plus, my favorite part, you get a have heck lot of fun!!

The staple Bollywood songs of time can fit with another dance style- ‘Zumba’perfectly. Zumba is easy to pick and would make you sweat without you realising that you are working out. To add to your advantage, this is something you can easily do at home while simply following a YouTube video. The choreography is repeating the same steps though out the song. Pick this style if your focus is on fitness.

If rap/trap music is your jam

Then ‘hip hop’ is the one for you. The beats of rap and/or trap music makes me want to pop out my bones. (Well not literally, cause’ that would be gross). If that happens to you while listening to Eminem, my dear reader, hip hop is your calling. But a fair warning, this style requires a certain level of control from your body. More so than Bollywood or Zumba. So be ready to give in some serious hard work.

If Punjabi music is your jam

Then quite obviously, ‘Bhangra’ is your calling. This style is not for the faint-hearted, cause’ you know Punjabis are such epic people, makes sense their dance would be epic as well. ;) But jokes apart, Bhangra is a high energy dance form, which is a great workout and it is impossible to dance the Bhangra without smiling. I dare you to try.

If Latin/ Spanish pop or songs with Latin/ Spanish touch is your jam

And you have a partner to boot, go for either ‘salsa’ or ‘tango’. These are both extremely sexy dance forms. Add ‘Bachata’ to it and you got a lot of sexy options to explore with your partner. These dance form will make you flexible and involve a lot of intense moves physically and emotionally which makes for an amazing time and bonding experience with your partner. My advice. Go for workshops of these dance forms with your better half and make it a date. I guarantee you, it will be one of the most fun dates.

Pfft! If you gonna go solo with latin, ‘Zumba’ is you go it.

This is not a complete list, I mean we can go on and on with the number of genres we have. Nor is it in any way scientific. This is all my personal opinion, so you can decide in any way you deem fit for you. I say you mix it up and shake the norms up a bit while you are shaking it ;)

We here at Verve Dance Zone like to do exactly that. Keep things fun and in movement. Don’t believe that? Come hang out with us, the part of our community, and let’s learn and create some sick moves while we are at it.
